Background and Analysis:
Council members receive a stipend to account for some of the costs and time related to service on the City Council. The amount of this stipend has not changed since 2008. Council member Cooper as Chair of the Finance Committee has requested that this item be consider by the Council
The City Council has the authority to change the amount of the stipend for newly elected Council members or it can appoint a salary commission to review the stipend for all current and future members
In 2015, the City Council’s General Government Committee looked at the issue, but made no recommendation at that time.
The issue before the Council is whether or not to review the amount of the stipend.
If so, should the analysis and discussion be brought to a Council, Committee, Study session or an Other Business item?
