Background and Analysis:

Through the Downtown Strategy process staff has developed a “Tool Box” that identifies 50 different tools that may be used to encourage implementation of the Downtown Strategy. A copy of the “Tool Box” is included as an attachment.  The majority of these tools are aimed at encouraging development of affordable housing. 

 

Staff will provide an overview of the “Tool Box” and start the discussion with the Committee about which tools to focus on to encourage affordable housing development. Staff has included a link to AWC/MRSC’s Homelessness and Housing Toolkit for Cities as well as information from the Home Fund regarding a possible funding measure for additional background information.

Housing affordability is an issue of community-wide interest.

 

Options:

1. Provide staff with feedback and direction regarding priorities for encouraging affordable housing production.
