Report

Issue:

The Neighborhood Pathways Program began in 2012 to improve neighborhood walkability. This year, City staff are reviewing how well this program is working. At this meeting, people from neighborhood groups and City staff that have worked on a Pathways project will share their thoughts about the program.

Staff Contact:

Michelle Swanson, AICP, Senior Program Specialist, Public Works | Transportation, 360.753.8575

Presenter(s):

Michelle Swanson

Background and Analysis:

In 2017, the City will not be issuing a call for projects under the Neighborhood Pathways Program. This year, staff will continue to work on designing and getting easements to build the Ensign Pathway.

Also this year, staff would like to review the program and discuss possible changes. As part of that review, we would like to discuss the program with the BPAC and with members of neighborhood groups who have participated in the process. This is a session to gather information to help inform any future changes.

To frame the discussion, we encourage all participants to come prepared to answer these questions:

1. What was challenging about the program?

2. What went well?

3. What changes would you suggest?

Some people are unable to attend and have chosen to submit written comments, attached.

Options:

None - discussion only

Financial Impact:

Funding for this program has varied between $100,000 - $175,000 each year. It is funded by the Voted Utility Tax.
