Background and Analysis:
The Puget Sound Communities4Impeachment has approached the Olympia City Council with an advisory resolution asking Olympia, WA to join other cities calling upon the U.S. House Judiciary to open an impeachment investigation of President Trump. Their legal case for impeachment is based on President Trump's violations of the Foreign and Domestic Emoluments Clauses of the U.S. Constitution, and obstruction of justice in the firing of FBI Director James Comey.

Members of the Puget Sound Communities4Impeachment will be at the July 11, 2017 Council meeting asking that the Council approve their resolution, which is attached. Should Council wish to proceed with a resolution, staff has crafted its own version of the resolution that is formatted appropriately. Staff recommends adopting this version if Council wishes to adopt a resolution.

Another option for Council consideration is to send a letter to our Federal delegation asking them contact the U.S. House Judiciary Committee to open an impeachment investigation. This is the City Manager's recommended approach.
