Background and Analysis:
The levy lid lift funded a community-based Crisis Response Team to respond to situations involving individuals in crisis. The team will help address immediate needs (e.g. housing, transportation, mental health care, basic needs) and help individuals with problem solving. The team will be dispatched and respond to calls to assist police officers and to ensure the appropriate individuals are addressing the appropriate issues.

The Olympia Police Department (OPD) published a Request for Proposal (RFP) for an entity to be the contract provider for the Crisis Response Team. OPD developed a committee inclusive of local providers, representatives of the Behavioral Health Organization (BHO), department employees, and City outreach representatives that evaluated responses from several providers. Part of the evaluation included a "walk about" in downtown Olympia followed by evaluation of the providers' responses to situational challenges experienced in the City of Olympia. Recovery Innovations International (RI) was selected as the finalist unanimously by the selection committee.

This contract is representative of the legal requirements to build a Crisis Response Team for the City of Olympia in response to identified need and approved funding.
