Background and Analysis:

In early 2019, the City Council began a broad, community-driven process to identify strategies to respond to homelessness and its impacts on the city. This plan was designed to link to Thurston County’s Homeless Crisis Response Plan 2019-2024.

A community work group made up of members with a diverse set of perspectives and experiences hosted the process. They invited a broad cross-section of the regional community to identify and carry out the strategies in the final plan. The workgroup has concluded their work and city staff will be operationalizing the plan in 2020.

Workgroup membership included Derek Harris of Community Youth Services, who is also on the Home Fund Advisory Board.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

Homelessness is an issue of concern for most people in Olympia and directly impacts a growing number of households.
