Report

Issue:

Cary will update the Home Fund Advisory on the many housing activities and milestones in the city and region since the last Home Fund Advisory meeting. He will also brief the group on changes to the advisory that have been discussed by Council.

Staff Contact:

Cary Retlin, Home Fund Manager, Community Planning & Development, 360.570.3956.

Presenter(s):

Cary Retlin, City of Olympia

Background and Analysis:

Olympia City Council discussed broadening the role of the Home Fund Advisory to potentially include advising staff and Council on the Homelessness Response Plan and other fund sources, including Community Development Block Grants at their January retreat. Other topics relevant to a broader group could include new Affordable and Supportive Housing revenue from sales tax as a result of House Bill 1406. The Home Fund Administrative and Financial Plan (attached) created an opportunity for that in the future.

Staff will also update the group on other activities related to homeless response and affordable housing development including renter protections, changes to the Multifamily Tax Exemption Program, and the 2020 Housing and Homeless Response Budget.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

Homelessness and affordable housing are of high interest to Olympia residents and businesses.

Options:

Discussion only. A recommendation may be sought at a future meeting.
