Background and Analysis:
Our community is in the midst of conversations on issues raised by the Black Lives Matter movement, yet Black voices are rarely at the center of these conversations. For our community to truly understand the issues at the center of institutional racism and the opportunities for positive change driven by the Black Lives Matter movement, we need to listen to those who are living Black lives.
The Olympia City Council has sponsored this series of virtual Town Halls to provide a platform for conversations around racial justice centered on and led by African Americans with professional and lived experience on specific topics.
This Town Hall will be on the topic of Racial Justice and Economic Opportunity.
The moderated panel includes:
Kellie Purce Braseth, Strategic Communications Director, City of Olympia
Megan Matthews, Engagement Manager for Poverty Reduction, Department of Social and Health Services
Merritt Long, Co-Founder of the Learning Seed Foundation
*More to be announced.
Attendees will be able to submit questions live through a moderator during the event.
