Background and Analysis:
Recognizing the need for public swimming facilities, the 2016 Parks, Arts and Recreation Plan allocated $100,000 to conduct an Aquatic Facility Feasibility Study.
In January 2020, the City hired Barker Rinker Seacat (BRS) from Denver, Colorado to conduct the feasibility study. Their team includes Ballard*King for recreation operations and program planning, Robert W. Droll for landscape architecture, and Water Technology Inc. for aquatic programming and engineering.
Staff has met with stakeholders, local jurisdictions and interested citizens several times over the last year to gather feedback. The first community survey was conducted in November 2020 and had over 1,200+ participants.
On June 7, the City released Survey #2 that will focus on the aquatic facility floorplan. The recommendations received will help the design team develop a single plan strategy which will help determine an operational plan and estimated project costs. The two concept designs that are presented in the survey are attached to this staff report. The survey will be open until June 21.
