Presenter(s):
Marygrace Goddu, Arts, Cultures & Heritage Coordinator
Background and Analysis:
In 2015 the Washington State Legislature created a program authorizing local governments to raise revenue from voter-approved sales or property taxes to strengthen access to cultural organizations and their public programming (RCW 36.160).
Currently, Tacoma is the only municipality to have created a Cultural Access Program in Washington state, through a voter-approved sales tax, known as Tacoma Creates.
Ms. Goddu will provide a briefing on Cultural Access and the plans underway for a proposition to be placed on the April 2022 ballot for voter approval in Olympia, for the purpose of supporting cultural institutions and extending their reach within our community.
