Background and Analysis:
The Olympia Fire Department (OFD) would like to increase staffing by one full-time equivalent (FTE) for a Master Mechanic. Each Master Mechanic adds over 1,500 hours per year in production to the OFD Vehicle Repair Facility (VRF). The additional production hours will allow for a higher completion percentage of regularly scheduled maintenance on OFD's and Fire Customer's emergency vehicles.

Two additional fire departments, Mason County Fire District 4 and Mason County Fire District 11, have requested service contracts to provide regular repair and maintenance service to their fleet of emergency vehicles. The estimated revenue to be billed by hiring a new Master Mechanic is approximately $225,400. The projected expense for the Master Mechanic is $118,840, which includes salary, benefits, and uniform clothing. This position will be included in the 2022 Operating Budget.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
Responding rapidly, with highly trained professionals to mitigate emergencies for the community is the primary mission of the Fire Department.
