Background:
Retired LEOFF 1 member is requesting approval to purchase a lightweight wheelchair. The member has followed the board policy and tried to acquire this equipment using the insurance benefit, however the lightest weight wheelchair available using insurance benefits is 36 lbs. The wheelchair in this request weighs 13.5 lbs. The attached documents explain the medical conditions of the member and the need for a lightweight wheelchair for his spouse to transport him.
