Background and Analysis:
On July 9, 2024 the City Council approved the Social Justice and Equity Commission’s recommendations for community involvement in law enforcement, including creation of a Community Policing Board (Board). On March 4, 2025 the City Council approved updates to the Olympia Municipal Code (OMC) section governing the Community Member Representatives for Police Use of Force and establishing the Community Policing Board. At their September 30, 2025 meeting the Council approved the recommended appointments to the Community Policing Board.
The November 6, 2025 meeting will be a combination of team building exercises and onboarding information for the newly appointed Board.
Climate Analysis:
This is not expected to have an impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

Serving on the Board is an opportunity to increase participation and representation among marginalized communities in City of Olympia process and decisions, ensuring that diverse perspectives are included in the development of recommendations to the Council.
Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
The community has a vested interest in the Board’s work and while this meeting will not directly impact any neighborhood or community interests, it will prepare the Board to effectively serve as representatives of the community in an advisory capacity to the City Council and ensure Olympia Police Department accountability and transparency.
