Background and Analysis:
The Olympia Heritage Commission is planning to have a booth at Arts Walk and this time will be spent going over the plans for the booth activity and ensuring there are enough volunteers to sustain the event. Additionally, members of the Commission have attended various events (Harbor Days, Thurston County Heritage Day, South Capitol Neighborhood BBQ, PNW Field School) and will be sharing out the progress and any event highlights.
Climate Analysis:
The greenest building is the one that is already built. Having the Commissioners attending events to share information on historic preservation best practices provides opportunities for educating the public on the benefits of preserving and retaining historic materials.
Equity Analysis:
The Olympia Heritage Commission is dedicated to improving education and outreach by seeking opportunities to engage with new audiences and underrepresented communities. This business item is a direct example of the efforts that the commission is taking to meet people where they are at to share information with new audiences. Every event is an opportunity to provide education on preservation best practices as well as the City’s historic preservation programming, including listing to the Olympia Heritage Register, Special Property Tax Valuation applications, and heritage design review.
