Background:

Based on Civil Service Rule IV: Examinations, initial eligibility lists were established with candidates who submitted a letter of interest to Fire Chief Matt Morris and/or Deputy Fire Chief Mike Buchanan and met the qualifications of Fire Lieutenant. Seven (7) candidates submitted letters of interest and met qualifications. Seven (7) candidates were invited to an assessment center. The assessment center consisted of four (4) assessment areas. These areas were a formal interview, a written/inbox assignment, a coaching/mentoring/discipline scenario interview, and a tactical scenario exercise. Seven (7) candidates participated in the assessment center and four (4) candidates passed.

 

Three (3) candidates were Male and one (1) candidate was Female. Five (5) candidates were White/Caucasian.

 

The assessment center panels were assessed by the following personnel:

 

Formal Interview: OFD Fire Lieutenant Peter Gibney, Lacey Fire Lieutenant Rob Randall, and Lacey Fire Lieutenant Chris Barney

 

Coaching/Mentoring/Discipline Scenario & Written/Inbox Assignment: OFD Battalion Chief Matt Gantenbein, Garfield Fire Chief Rob Smith, Lacey Fire Lieutenant David Perz

 

Tactical Scenario: Lacey Battalion Chief Tim Hulse, Lacey Fire Lieutenant Bryce Craig, and Tumwater Fire Lieutenant Shane Brady

 

Role Players: OFD Battalion Chief Jason Waters, OFD Fire Lieutenant Jonathan Winkelman, OFD Fire Lieutenant Derek Johnson, OFD Firefighter Paul Teeter, OFD Firefighter Nathan Bowman, OFD Firefighter Dan Harris, OFD Firefighter Anthony Anserello, and OFD Firefighter/Paramedic Noah Skartvedt.

 

Findings:

Four (4) candidates successfully passed the assessment center and have been placed on the register in accordance with scores of 76.37 - 91.46.
