Background and Analysis:

Staff presented the proposed 2027 OMPD budget to the OMPD Advisory Committee on October 7, 2026.  The proposed budget of $5,898,634 would result in an estimated 2027 levy rate of approximately $.4876/$1,000 assessed value. That is slightly higher than the 2026 levy rate of $.4830. Notice of the public hearing was published on October 14, 2026, and October 20, 2026.

This hearing provides an opportunity for the OMPD Board to hear from the public on the Olympia Metropolitan Park District 2027 budget.

Climate Analysis:

OMPD funding is utilized to fund projects and programs that benefit carbon sequestration and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Examples include full funding for the Park Stewardship program which manages and enhances natural areas, including planting thousands of native trees and plants each year.

Equity Analysis:

The OMPD funding provides benefits to the community that would not have been realized without the funding. For example, the OMPD funds the Park Ranger program that focuses on voluntary compliance with park rules and connecting those in need with social services, such as housing and food.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):

The YES Olympia Parks coalition was heavily involved in the formation of the Olympia Metropolitan Park District and some of its members continue to take a strong interest in the activities of the OMPD Advisory Committee and Board.
