Background and Analysis:
The West Bay Environmental Restoration Assessment is a detailed scientific evaluation of current and potential future shoreline conditions. The scope of the study covers Budd Inlet’s West Bay from 5th Avenue north to the City limits. The assessment looks at ways to improve the environmental conditions of the shoreline.
The assessment is focused on publicly-owned properties along the shoreline. However, it will also provide general recommendations on how to improve the shoreline on the privately-owned properties. The assessment will evaluate potential public access and trail options for the shoreline.
The study was initiated in May 2015 after a scope of work was collaboratively developed by City Public Works and Parks, Arts and Recreation Departments; the Port of Olympia; and the Squaxin Island Tribe. Final reports will be available in early January 2016. The results will be shared with stakeholders and the public in late January and February. The information, concepts, and ecological benefit evaluations from the assessment will inform future West Bay Park master planning, identify Port mitigation opportunities, and support future public and private environmental projects along the West Bay shoreline.

The community and Westside neighborhoods are interested in the future development of West Bay Park, trail options along the shoreline and lagoon, environmental restoration opportunities, and future development along the shoreline.
