Background:

Based on Civil Service Rule V, Registers, Initial Eligibility Lists, initial eligibility lists were established with candidates who applied internally and met the minimum qualifications. Six (6) internal candidates applied and six (6) were invited to an assessment center. Six (6) candidates successfully passed the assessment. The assessment center consisted of four (4) exercises. Exercise One (1) was an Inbox task and review. Exercise Two (2) was Supervisor Qualifications and Expectations. Exercise Three (3) was a Community Member Complaint-Employee Meeting role-play. Exercise Four (4) was a Calls for Service assignment. The four (4) assessments each included four (4) rating dimensions. The various dimensions that were assessed were Decision Making & Judgement, Operational Planning & Prioritization, Professional Standards & Accountability, Resource & Personnel Management, Interpersonal Communication, Leadership & Command Presence, and Problem Solving & Critical Thinking.

 

The minimum passing score for the assessment center was 70%.

 

The assessment center assessors consisted of:

Exercise One (1): Thurston County Sherrif’s Office Sergeant Jeff Dehan and Washington State Patrol Sergeant Cameron Iverson

Exercise Two (2): Tumwater Police Lieutenant Bryent Finch and Community Member Robin Rosen-Evans

Exercise Three (3): Thurston County Sherrif’s Office Sergeant Kris Kimball, City of Olympia Chief Prosecutor Bryanna Pinkston, Hoquiam Police Sergeant Jerad Spaur (role player), and Community Member Sarah Nagy (role player)

Exercise Four (4): Lacey Police Sergeant Napolean Parker and Tacoma Police Sergeant Luke Faulkner

 

Six (6) candidates proceeded to participate in the Work Performance Rating (WPR). Five (5) candidates successfully passed the WPR. The WPR was a review of work performance conducted by the Olympia Police Sergeant current work group. They evaluated the candidates in dimensions of Ethical Behavior, Agency Values & Mission, Quality of Work, Quantity of Work, and Demonstrates Leadership. Eleven (11) of the twelve (12) current Police Sergeants participated in the WPR. One (1) was excused due to Paid Family Leave.

 

The minimum passing score for the WPR was 70%.

 

Five (5) candidates were male. One (1) candidate was Hispanic/Latino, and four (4) candidates were White/Caucasian.

 

Findings:

Five (5) candidates passed the assessment center have been placed on the register in accordance with scores of 78.50 - 88.61.
