Background and Analysis:

Annually, a Call for Art is made available to artists who have participated in Arts Walk within the previous two years. Staff prioritizes diverse perspectives represented in our three-panel jury typically made up of an artist selected for the previous year’s cover, a community member at large and an Art Commissioner, represented this year by Commissioner Garey.

Climate Analysis:

Determining Arts Walk cover artists for 2024 will not positively or negatively affect climate and the environment.

Equity Analysis:

Staff have been working to bridge barriers to engagement with participating in the Arts Walk Cover Art call for art for several years. The eligibility requirement of having participated in Arts Walk in the past two years and recognizing from past survey feedback that the number one response for how businesses & artists pair up is from existing relationships, staff have been working to create multiple entry points to participation which include: continuing with a "pay what you choose" registration fee in 2024 for participating locations and the Arts Market where artists are able to sign up independently to participate without having to secure a downtown location. These efforts support engagement for emerging artists, artists new to the area, and artists from underrepresented communities.
