Background and Analysis:
The second round of the Music Out Loud mosaic design jury was held Tuesday, August 1 at The Olympia Center. The four jurors present were Stacy Hicks, Ron Hinton, Britta Echtle of the Arts Commission, and former Arts Commissioner Michael Olson.
The presentation schedule went as follows:

6:35pm Public Comment - Mr. Eke’s good friend and former business partner shared his appreciation for the project and both designs, as did Chad Carpenter from the Washington Center. The question of direction/orientation of each design was put to and answered by the artists.

7:10pm Public Comment - Mr. Munger’s widow noted that both designs captured the essence of her late husband, and she appreciated the research and thought both artists put into their designs. The question of direction/orientation was also put to the artists.

7:45pm Public Comment - No member of the public with direct connection to Mr. Wilson or the location spoke, but there was general approval of the aspects of Mr. Wilson’s life captured in the designs.
7:50pm Jury deliberation
After discussion about each proposal, jury members agreed to the recommendation of designs by Jennifer Kuhns (Verne Eke), Nathan Barnes (Steve Munger), and Michele A. Burton (Bert Wilson).

Some adjacent businesses and some friends and family of the recognized musicians were in attendance.
Options:
1). Move to approve the recommendation of the jury of the 3 designs/artists for Council approval.
2). Move to not accept the recommendation of the jury.
3). Move to modify the recommendation of the jury.
Financial Impact:
$1000 each for final design from the Municipal Art Fund.
