Background and Analysis:

Hispanic Heritage Month is an annual opportunity to recognize and celebrate the culture, heritage and contributions of Hispanic and Latinx communities to our country, our state, and our city. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States spanning September 15 through October 15.

Olympia has a long history of celebrating and supporting the diversity of all its community members and visitors; this includes cultivating diverse representation in City-sponsored events, spaces and activities. On September 23, 2023, the City of Olympia partnered with Ultimano Comms+ to host the first annual Lula Fest. This year the City of Olympia is pleased to partner again with Ultimano Comms+ on the second annual Lula Fest, to be held on September 28, 2024 from 3 pm to 9 pm in downtown Olympia. The event celebrates Hispanic and Latinx culture and heritage, grounded by the vision "Ser audaces al celebrar el pasado cultural, para construir un futuro mejor / Be bold in celebrating the cultural past, in order to build a better future." The City, its employees, elected officials, community members, and visitors are invited and welcomed to attend.

Climate Analysis:

No impacts to any of the climate mitigation sectors.

Equity Analysis:

This recognition raises awareness about the contributions and achievements made by generations of Hispanic and Latinx communities here in the Pacific Northwest and across the nation. This recognition benefits Olympia residents as well as those in neighboring communities by increasing a sense of belonging and inclusion.
