Background and Analysis:
As part of the periodic update to the City’s Comprehensive plan, the Social Justice and Equity Commission (SJEC) was given the opportunity to provide feedback from a social justice and equity lens on each chapter of the Olympia 2045 Comprehensive Plan. SJEC received a briefing from City staff on the introductory chapter of the plan, and their feedback has been captured in a draft letter.
Climate Analysis:
This is not expected to have an impact on greenhouse gas emissions.
Equity Analysis:
A comprehensive plan provides guidance and direction for the overall work of the City. Having equity analysis in each chapter and having the SJEC review that analysis will help to ensure more perspectives are considered and improve equitable access to City services, programs and activities.
Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
Community input on the comprehensive plan was collected through various methods of soliciting input including public meetings, digital surveys, and presentations at City advisory committees like the Social Justice and Equity Commission. This letter provides feedback specifically on the Key Challenges section of the chapter.
Options:
1) Approve the draft letter
2) Make amendments to the draft letter and approve the amended draft.
3) Do not approve the draft letter.
Financial Impact:
No known financial impacts.
