Background and Analysis:
Thurston County Fire Protection District 3 is a response partner that plays a role in the safety of the City of Olympia. The Olympia Fire Department would like to be able to share vehicles and equipment with the District on an as-needed basis. This is especially important when a Thurston County Fire Protection District 3 vehicle is in for extended maintenance, as Olympia counts on a certain level of service via mutual aid from the District. The borrowing of a vehicle by the District in these cases assures that the District can still support the City at the expected level if needed. Conversely, should the City of Olympia need to borrow vehicles or equipment in the future, this agreement will allow for that movement of assets from Thurston County Fire Protection District 3 to Olympia Fire. The cost of this use is limited to maintenance and fuel paid by the borrowing party.
The agreement details the sharing of vehicles and equipment from Thurston County Fire Protection District 3 to the City of Olympia in the future. Historically, Olympia was able to borrow a vehicle from Lakewood Fire in 2007 using a similar agreement when major maintenance was needed on our ladder truck. That borrowing assured that the citizens of Olympia did not lose coverage during that extended maintenance time.
