Background and Analysis:

Currently, the City engages more than 90 community members across 12 Council-appointed advisory committees, boards and commissions. Members generally serve three-year terms for a maximum of three terms.

At the close of the term ending March 31, 2025, 21 community members, representing 10 advisory committees, boards and commission will be leaving or will have left their seats on their respective committees:

                     Arts Commission: Tracey Schreiber

Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee: Alison Bremner, Jennifer Riedmayer, and Steven Albrecht

Cultural Access Advisory Board: Mikaela Shafer and Wayne Kleppe

Heritage Commission: Andrea Pareigis and Audrey Henley

Lodging Tax Advisory Committee: Annette Pitts

                     OMPD Advisory Committee: Roger Horn

Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee: Candace Bock and Daniel Farber

Planning Commission: Tracey Carlos and William Hannah

Social Justice and Equity Commission: Parfait Bassalé, Genevieve Chan, Mark Hodgson, Larry Watkinson and Rachelle Martin

Utility Advisory Committee: Arland Schneider and Sherry Chilcutt

The Olympia City Council is recognizing these departing members and thanking them for the gift of their time and talent in service to the City of Olympia.

Climate Analysis:

No climate impacts were evident.

Equity Analysis:

Council-appoint boards and commissions offer a ready opportunity to reduce disparities in participation by marginalized communities in the City’s processes and decisions. The Community Livability and Public Safety Committee has been intentional about working to increase the racial, age and socio-economic diversity among the community volunteers who make up these advisory committees.
