Background and Analysis:

For the sixth time, the Water Resources and Drinking Water Utilities held an art contest for Olympia middle school students to promote stormwater pollution prevention and water conservation practices.  The City’s 2025 Water Resources Stewardship Through Art calendar will include the selected artwork.  Twelve key messages were identified for the artwork to depict:

Only rain down the storm drain

                     Use a commercial car wash

Scoop, bag & trash pet waste

                     Practice bee friendly yard care

Don’t drip & drive - fix vehicle leaks

                     Rake a drain

                     Take shorter showers

                     Don’t let the water run

Be a leak detector - find & fix

                     Water landscapes early or late

                     Install a rain barrel

                     Don’t be a hoser - use a broom instead

Of the entries received, thirteen images were selected to produce the 2025 calendar, with four receiving an honorable mention.  Each selected artist will receive a $50 Visa gift card and City Council recognition.  The City will distribute the calendars to each of the selected artists, Olympia middle schools and will be available at City Hall.
