Background and Analysis:
In November 2015, the Planning Commission selected new officers to serve in 2016. Commissioner Richmond was selected as Chair and Commissioner Andresen was selected as Vice-Chair.
Because Commissioners Horn and Bateman were leaving the Commission, and Commissioner Andersen's term was set to expire on March 31, 2016, the Commission decided to hold elections again in March once the new Commissioners were seated. The Commission considered not selecting the Chair and Vice-Chair until March 2016 but the bylaws require elections take place in November or December for the following year. The bylaws state:
"...officers of the committee shall consist of a Chair and Vice-Chair or Co-Chairs selected from members of the committee by consensus or by a majority vote if consensus cannot be reached. The officers shall be selected at the committee's regular meeting in November or December. The officers shall serve for a one-year term of office beginning in January."
Elections took place in November, with an agreement that elections would be held again in March, once the new Commissioners were appointed. Staff indicated the Commission could hold elections in March if it so chooses. The Commission also decided to form a subcommittee to help determine which Commissioners might be interested in serving in a leadership position for the future selection of officers.
