Background and Analysis:
The City is updating the Comprehensive Plan on a chapter-by-chapter basis. This Committee has been closely involved with the update to the transportation chapter. At the November meeting, staff advised the Committee that a new draft of the chapter was coming that would reflect feedback we heard last fall from members of the public, the Planning Commission, and the BPAC.
What's in the new draft
Staff has summarized the major changes in this draft on the attached list. We have also attached a "tracked changes" version of the chapter that shows the changes between this draft and the last. If you would prefer to read a version without tracked changes, we have posted one on the Engage Olympia page, to which we have also attached a link. If you would like to review the feedback we have received on the chapter so far, you can also see that on the Engage Olympia page.
Next steps
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on this draft on February 3rd at 6:30 pm. Members of the public who wish to comment are welcome to email olympia2045@ci.olympia.wa.us or comment during the hearing. The hearing can be attended virtually or in person at Olympia City Hall, 601 4th Avenue E. Those who wish to attend virtually can register online five days in advance at a link posted on the agenda for the meeting. We have attached a link to the Planning Commission calendar.
After the public hearing, the City Council will begin its review of the chapter. The full Comprehensive Plan and regulations that implement it must be adopted by the end of 2025.
