Background and Analysis:
Since 1993, the City of Olympia has billed the State for Fire Protection services. This billing is allowed per RCW 35.21.779. The RCW stipulates that when the estimated value of State properties sited in a municipality equals 10 percent or more of that municipality’s total assessed valuation, State agencies owning those properties shall enter into a compulsory fire protection contract with the municipality to provide an equitable share of the fire protection costs.
The amount of the Washington Technology Solutions (WaTech) contract for the 2026-2027 fiscal year is $184,000.00. This reflects a $6,000.00 increase from the previous contract.
State of Washington properties in Olympia, including the WaTech property at 1500 Jefferson Street, is included in the overall calculation used to determine the total amount of State property located in the City of Olympia.
The property at 1500 Jefferson Street, occupied by WaTech, is separately contracted from the Department of Enterprise Services (DES) properties on the Capitol Campus. The DES agreement is a separate action.
