Background and Analysis:

In August 2015, via proclamation, the city declared the second Monday in October as Indigenous People’s Day in the City of Olympia.

The proclamation notes Indigenous Peoples’ Day shall be used to reflect upon the ongoing struggles of Indigenous People, and to celebrate the thriving culture and value that Squaxin, Nisqually, Puyallup, Chehalis, Suquamish, Duwamish, and other indigenous nations add to our city.

Representatives of various Washington State tribes will discuss local activities related to Indigenous People’s day.
