Background and Analysis:
The Olympia Creative District is a state-certified Creative District under the Washington State Arts Commission (ArtsWA) program.
From the DOCD website:
Having a defined creative district means there is dedicated support, visible place-making, infrastructure (studio space, maker space, performance venues), and a community of peers to further the goals our local artists and creative businesses.
• Creative districts are recognized as engines for economic development. Smaller businesses feed local economies and attract new visitors to a core area.
• DOCD enhances the sense of place in downtown Olympia, our public art, culture, unique local businesses, and local history.
• DOCD can help guide urban revitalization & historic preservation, including using historic/industrial buildings for creative uses to avoid more vacant or derelict structures.
