Background and Analysis:
July is recognized nationally as Parks and Recreation Month by the National Recreation and Parks Association and this year's theme is "Build Together, Play Together". And if ever a theme described our community, this is fitting for this summer. A brief snapshot of the variety of work staff has completed or is working on this summer:
* Opening a new multi-modal trail on the westside at Grass Lake Nature Park, and a new mountain bike park at Kaiser Woods.
* Finalizing Phase I plans for Yelm Highway Community Park, which will include Olympia's long-awaited first soccer field, a mini-pitch, 13 pickleball courts, playground, dog park, great lawn, and several walking paths.
* Continuing life safety improvements at The Armory Creative Campus as we target a reopening in 2027.
* Hosting 450 participants each week in summer camps and summer programming
* Coordinating over 7,000 summer hours of reserved use in facilities such as The Olympia Center, Park Shelters, Harbor House and athletic fields.
* Launching the 2025 Percival Plinth Public Art Project
Building and playing together is what we know, and we're incredibly proud of the work our employees do every day.
