Background and Analysis:

The Squaxin Island Tribe and City of Olympia have worked collaboratively for many years to build and sustain a strong government-to-government relationship. This relationship provides an important foundation for ongoing communication, coordination, and collaboration on issues of mutual interest.

The City and the Tribe have a history of working together on a range of issues, including water rights, conservation and stewardship, shoreline and habitat restoration, cultural resources, and community priorities. The relationship is also guided by the Olympia-Squaxin Tribal Accord, which recognizes the importance of working together in a spirit of mutual respect and shared responsibility.

The annual joint meeting provides an opportunity for the City Council and Squaxin Island Tribal Council to strengthen this relationship, share updates and priorities, discuss areas of mutual interest, and identify opportunities for continued collaboration. The meeting also provides an opportunity to continue the work of building a strong and lasting government-to-government partnership.
