Background and Analysis:
The City of Olympia plans to break ground on the Yelm Highway Community Park Project late in the first quarter of 2026. Park construction will be in accordance with the Master Plan approved by Council in 2022. We are proceeding with implementation of Phase 1 park improvements at this time.
Major elements include synthetic turf field with lighting; pickleball courts; picnic shelter; play area that accommodates both 2-5 and 5-12 ages and is designed to include inclusive play elements; restroom; fenced dog park; basketball courts; mini-pitch soccer field and interactive digital play features; and park maintenance facility.
Playground equipment was designed by the Berger Partnership, the Landscape Architecture consulting firm working on design of the project. Following playground equipment selection, we determined that equipment could be procured using the Sourcewell Cooperative Contract for a discounted price, saving nearly $42,000 from list price.
