Background and Analysis:
Every spring, usually in the third week of May, the City of Olympia joins the APWA and municipalities across North America and around the world in celebrating National Public Works Week, honoring the impact and role that Public Works professionals make on our vibrant community.
In 1960, the APWA received an official endorsement from the United States Senate and organized the first Public Works Week. Six decades after its establishment, this tradition continues to honor and celebrate the dedicated people of Public Works who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication.
This year's celebration theme is "Connecting the World Through Public Works." It highlights the way Public Works professionals connect communities around the world physically, through infrastructure, and inspirationally, through essential services such as transportation, water resources, solid waste, public facilities, fleet, and emergency management.
