Background and Analysis:
The Social Justice and Equity Commission’s (Commission) Work Plan includes a retreat for the Commission to discuss how other cities are addressing discrimination in their communities and to develop a draft recommendation for Council on how to address the findings in the Experiences with Discrimination Report.
The retreat will be facilitated by Truclusion, Truclusion will be presenting research findings on the Experience of Discrimination report. Additionally, Truclusion will present research conducted on how other cities are addressing discrimination in their communities and will facilitate the discussion as the Commission considers its next project.
Climate Analysis:
This project is not expected to have an impact on greenhouse gas emissions.
Equity Analysis:
The Commission is an advisory body whose mission is to “eliminate racism and fulfill human rights for a just and equitable Olympia for all people.”
Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
The community has a vested interest in the Commission’s work and while the retreat will not directly impact any neighborhood or community interests, it will prepare the Commission to continue making Olympia a more equitable community.

Financial Impact:
The estimated cost for new project research and facilitation is $29,120 and is appropriated in the 2024.
