Background and Analysis:

Service animals empower people with disabilities to lead life with greater independence and participation within our community. Of the 64 million Americans living with a disability, only a fraction are assisted by task trained service animals. National Service Dog Month highlights the invaluable impact service dogs have on the lives of people living with disabilities. Jody Hawthorne, from Canine Companions will accept the proclamation and speak to the important role service dogs play in our community.
