Background and Analysis:
In May 2022, Olympia's Climate Program Manager Pamela Braff and Mayor Cheryl Selby attended the 2021-2022 ICLEI World Congress in Malm?, Sweden.

The ICLEI World Congress is held every three years to showcase how local and regional governments are advancing sustainable urban development worldwide. This event provides an opportunity for local and regional government representatives to connect with peers, establish new strategic partnerships, and learn about best practices and new ideas to enhance their work.

The theme of the 2021-2022 ICLEI World Congress was "Sustainability. Together". Meeting sessions focused on:
* Strategies towards a climate neutral future.
* Strategies towards resilient and health communities in harmony with nature.
* Strategies towards equitable and inclusive communities.

This briefing will highlight key learnings and outcomes from the ICLEI World Congress.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
Since the acceptance of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan (TCMP) in February 2021, community members have urged the City to take immediate and ambitious action to address climate change. Participation in the ICLEI World Congress has provided staff with new ideas and insights to advance local climate action and the implementation of the TCMP.
