Issue:
Thurston County is considering two rezones within Olympia's Urban Growth Area (UGA). The County plans for UGA's in conjunction with jurisdictions, thus our two planning commissions will jointly review this proposed rezone. This briefing will explain the two proposals in advance of the upcoming joint public hearing on October 10th, 6:30 PM, in Room 152 at the Thurston County Courthouse. The Olympia Planning Commission will deliberate and make a recommendation at their meeting on October 22, 2012.
 
The proposals are:
1. Thurston County is considering rezoning the French Loop/Road and Butler Cove Study Area and the S. Olympia/Chambers Study Area of the Urban Growth Area to lower densities.
 
2. The County proposes a site specific rezone for an area at 8th SE and Steele SE which is an unincorporated island. The rezone would change the current zoning of Residential Four to Eight units per acre (R 4-8) to Residential Multifamily 18 units per acre (RM-18). This is referred to as the Medela site specific rezone.
