Background and Analysis:
The Park Rangers work to create safe, welcoming and accessible space for everyone in City of Olympia parks. Their work is supported by legal authority in the Olympia Municipal Code, but their success is based on skilled communication, relationship building, and compassion.
Additional information about the Park Ranger program was requested at a PRAC meeting in 2025. This presentation will answer the questions posed at that meeting as well as provide more specific information about the program.
Climate Analysis:
Park Rangers protect natural areas by educating people about park rules and cleaning up harmful trash. They impact climate by using fuel to drive around to different parks.
Equity Analysis:
Park Rangers strive to provide welcoming public spaces for all in parks, recognizing they can be a safe refuge for those who are experiencing discrimination. They ensure free public recreation areas are safe and accessible.
