Report
Issue:
An interlocal agreement between Fort Lewis Fire Department and the City of Olympia needs to be changed to recognize that Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base have merged into one entity, Joint Base Lewis McChord. This new agreement memorializes that change.

Background and Analysis:
The City of Olympia and the US Army at Fort Lewis have had a mutual aid agreement for firefighting for a number of years. This agreement allows the City to request very specialized firefighting equipment from Fort Lewis should there be a special need in Olympia. This agreement also allows traditional firefighting and personnel mutual aid between the two entities but that request is unlikely since both agencies have significant traditional mutual aid resources that are closer. This agreement then has much more potential benefit to Olympia.
The current in force agreement automatically rolls over each year but it was noted that Fort Lewis has changed their name to Joint Base Lewis McChord. In the process they have combined fire resources from Fort Lewis and McChord Air Force Base, making them even a stronger mutual aid partner to Olympia.
The existing agreement adequately defines the mutual aid arrangement but the names should be updated as a matter of housekeeping. Signing the new agreement fixes the issue.
