Issue:
The Planning Commission is participating in developing Olympia’s Action Plan to implement the recently updated Comprehensive Plan. Among the Action Plan issues are identification of steps the community may take to achieve the various housing-related goals of the Plan. This briefing will provide the Commission with related background information, including an overview of the current regulatory structure, diversity of housing types in Olympia, and trends and projections.

Background and Analysis:
City staff has received substantial feedback from advisory committees and the public regarding implementation of the Comprehensive Plan. A draft of the in-progress “Action Plan” will be presented to the Planning Commission for review and recommendations late in 2015.
In addition to Olympia’s efforts to implement its Comprehensive Plan, both the City of Tacoma and Seattle have recently been in the news regarding proposals to provide more residential in-fill opportunities in those larger cities. This presentation will provide the Commission with a local context for this topic.
