Approval of the Olympia Fire Department Assistant Fire Chief of Training Register

Move to approve the certification of the Assistant Fire Chief of Training Register effective July 18, 2024.

Background:

Based on Civil Service Rule V, Registers, Initial Eligibility Lists, initial eligibility lists were established with candidates who applied and met the assigned criteria for Assistant Fire Chief positions. Three (3) candidates applied and three (3) participated in the process, which consisted of a written employee development plan, a presentation, and an interview. Two (2) candidates passed the assessment, and one (1) candidate did not pass. Two (2) candidates have been placed on the register.

 

Three (3) candidates were male and Caucasian. The interview panel consisted of OFD Lieutenant Derek Johnson, OFD Fire Lieutenant Shane Dobson, OFD Battalion Chief Russell Hermann, OFD Deputy Chief Mark Schreck, OFD Business Operations Specialist Stephanie Porter, and Community Member Terri Prather. The assessors for the written were OFD Battalion Chief Jason Waters, OFD Lieutenant Shane Dobson, and Tumwater Fire BC Brad Ridgeway. Nicole Camus from HR was also present as an observer.

 

Findings:

Two (2) candidates have passed the interview and assessment and have been placed on the register in accordance with scores of 89.5 - 83.13.
