Background and Analysis:
Line of Business Director Shelley Flaherty and Fire Chief Larry Dibble are leaving city employment, retiring in March. Shelley Flaherty had her fire department recognition last week, on March 15, 2018. Larry Dibble’s recognition event will be at noon on March 29, 2018 at the main fire station. They started just a year apart, Shelley in 1984 and Larry for his second time at Olympia Fire Department (OFD) in 1985. Larry left a firefighter position at OFD for a chief position in Poulsbo. He returned to OFD as a Training Chief in 1985. It is fitting that they should be retiring at the same time.
As part of OFD’s Senior Management Team, they have been involved in shaping the department over the past 30+ years. Although Shelley won’t officially be gone until later in April, her time in the office is coming to an end as is that of Chief Dibble. The department will miss them both. This time before City Council is to thank them for their long and distinguished service.
