Background and Analysis:

The City is planning to resurface Capitol Way and Capitol Blvd and reconfigure lanes to add bike lanes from Capital Campus to Tumwater city limits.

Street resurfacing projects preserve the condition of our streets by sealing cracks and resurfacing with a chip seal or asphalt overlay. Since a new surface allows for a new layout to the street, resurfacing projects are often paired with the addition of other features, like bike lanes, crosswalks, or striping changes to improve safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and drivers.

The City plans to repave Capitol Way and Capitol Boulevard from 25th to Union by grinding off the old pavement and adding a new surface. From Carlyon to Union, the project plan is to remove one travel lane in each direction, add bike lanes, include some in-lane bus stops to improve transit reliability, and add enhanced crosswalks at select locations.
