Background and Analysis:
The City has both stormwater and drinking water pipes on private property that need to be abandoned and relocated into the public right-of-way along 12th Avenue SE.

In the early 1970's the City built an 18-inch stormwater conveyance pipe north of 12th Avenue SE. Most of this pipe is on private property and a portion of it is inaccessible for repairs because a medical office was subsequently built on top of the pipe.

A 16-inch drinking water pipe was built in the 1930's and also crosses through private property. The portion of watermain we will relocate is part of the water distribution system that supplies the Capital Campus and the South Capital neighborhood. Moving this water pipe will increase both reliability and capacity of that system.

Repairing these pipes would be extremely difficult and costly due to their location. If one of them started to leak or break the amount of property damage could be extremely high and disruptive.

Project scope:

12th Avenue SE from Eastside Street SE to the end of the Cul-de-Sac
