Background and Analysis:
Various Council-appointed committee and commission terms end on March 31, 2016. Attached is a list of applicants. The list also shows the number of openings as of March 31, the number of committee members and membership requirements. Overall, the City received 65 applications for 31 positions across 8 Advisory Boards. Three of the applications were received after the deadline for committees whose recruitment has closed.

The General Government Committee needs to consider a process and set dates for the interviews. Given the number of applications, staff recommends setting up group interviews, and one or two special meetings in March to complete the work.

In the past the General Government Committee has automatically reappointed some or all of current board members who applied for another term and only interviewed new applicants for any remaining open positions after the reappointments. The Committee will need to consider how this might work, given that, for one committee that received a good deal of new applicants, automatic reappointments would leave no remaining vacancy for consideration.
