Background and Analysis:
The City of Olympia Jail must supply necessary medical care to those who are detained.  In addition, vaccines may be given in order to avoid the spread of viruses amongst the jail community and jails staff.  The Minnesota Multistate Contracting Alliance for Pharmacy, which is administered by the State of Minnesota, has contracted with vendors to provide the supplies our jail routinely uses for a very attractive price.  This agreement allows the City of Olympia to buy vaccines, medical supplies, and over-the-counter medications from the Alliance, similar to the City buying various items under State of Washington contracts.  The City is not obligated to buy materials under the Alliance contract.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
None known.

Options:
1. Authorize the interlocal agreement amendment
2. Decline authority to sign interlocal agreement amendment

Financial Impact:
The Jail currently budgets $2,000 for medical supplies that would be covered under this contract.  Exact savings depend on the items purchased.  In many cases, the Alliance contract price is up to 50% less than buying from the vendor directly.
