Background and Analysis:
Each year, the Department of Justice solicits applications for the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) program. The program funds critical needs in law enforcement. For the Federal Fiscal Year 2014, $15,560 has been allocated to the City of Olympia through this grant.
The grant application will be made on or before June 10, 2014. The grant application requires that the application was, ?"made available for review by the governing body...not less than 30 days before the application was submitted to BJA (Bureau of Justice Assistance)."? However, BJA has allowed Olympia to waive the 30 day requirement because of the short application timeframe, and instead will accept City Council review that has occurred at least 30 days before the grant funding is accepted. It is anticipated that the application will be approved and an acceptance required no earlier than October 2014. In addition, the application requires that the public has an opportunity to view and comment on the application. The Department is soliciting feedback from the public via the Department's homepage where the application materials are also available.
