Background and Analysis:
The Squaxin Island Tribe and the City of Olympia have worked collaboratively for several years to create a strong and enduring government-to-government relationship.  This relationship is fundamental to our ability to work collaboratively on items of mutual interest.  For example, the City and the Tribe have conferred and cooperated on a number of critical issues such as the development of water rights, conservation stewardship agreements, shoreline and habitat restoration projects, and the upcoming Paddle to Squaxin 2012 hosted by the Squaxin Island Tribe.

The signing of this accord formalizes our intent to continue our efforts to communicate, consult, and cooperate on infrastructure projects, natural resource efforts, and educational and cultural opportunities.

At the joint meeting between the Tribe and the City on June 18, 2012, the Tribal Councilmembers and City Councilmembers discussed the draft accord and agreed to move it forward for formal ratification.

Neighborhood/Community Interests (if known):
None.

Options:
1.  Adopt the attached accord.
2.  Amend the attached accord and bring back at a future meeting.

Financial Impact:
The signing of the accord has no impact.  Each of the projects or efforts that the City and the Tribe undertake jointly would spell out the City's financial commitment through separate documents at the time each of those efforts is undertaken.
