Background and Analysis:

At the August 1 Special Meeting, Commissioners compiled a draft list of 23 Comprehensive Plan topics to be reviewed and discussed during initial and final deliberations.  The list was organized into five broad themes at the August 8 full Commission meeting. The Commission has turned over the list to the CPU Sub-Committee to determine a schedule for review.
Prioritizing and scheduling in advance what issues to deliberate on is needed, as the Commission has entered into a Charter with Council agreeing to deliver their recommended update to Council in January 2013.  Some Commissioners have expressed concern with the January 2013 delivery date, and in response, Commissioner Parker has drafted a letter elaborating on those concerns.
Multiple drafts of the letter have been reviewed and discussed by the CPU Sub-Committee on July 16 and full Commission on July 25 and August 1.  Five Commissioners chose to sign a final draft on August 6, which will be delivered to Councilmember Langer as liaison to the Planning Commission (Attachment).  Councilmember Langer is scheduled to attend the August 13 Sub-Committee meeting for the discussion on the Comprehensive Plan review schedule.
